Chevy - Lowering a 1950 3/4 ton

Has any one had any experiences lowering a 3/4 ton fame? I am doing a frame off restoration on a 50 3/4 ton long bed and plan to shorten the frame and lower. Trying to decide whether to stay...

I'd go with a doner frame. We live in Calif. and there are lots of early fifty trucks around. I've seen at least 20 to 30 in my area alone.
