November 22, 2006I have a 58 Chevy apache and i want to get it restored.
Im 21 years old and work part time and school full time, so i dont have alot of money, but want to get my truck going. my mom spent money and got the Engine rebuild (283) and tranny and rear end rebuild, and the brakes as well. So it tecnically is in "driving" condition.
But the body needs work (pain and dents), some is rusting. Inside is just as bad. Need to redo carpet and seats, and paint. Guage cluster doesnt work, steering is sloppy as is the 3 speed on the tree. Windows also need replacing.
I have the ability and tools to do body work and paint, but not the knowledge. i took an autobody class but i dont have all the details i need to know to do it myself. Inside and outside needs to be done and i NEEED to get rid of the rust. I have an oak bed to put in, but need to get body work done first.
So my question is- Where do i start? Engine compartment is all done, but the whole body and interior needs to be redone. I'd also like to lower it but dont know the best way. I would also like a Automatic transmission but keepign the shifter on the column, and would like maybe power steering.
What is the best bet? can anyone give me advice on where to start, what can be a work in progress... where i could take it for body work? (in northern california) . Thanks all.
