April 23, 2004I have a tailgate that I'm adding to my truck and I want to make it smooth. I'm shaving off the "CHEVROLET" and relocating the handle to the inside of the tailgate. I found a handle relocater but installation has to be used with a tailgate skin.

April 23, 200468LOLO, a tailgate skin is a plain cover that can fit over your existing tailgate. The are usually used, when the tailgate is warped, dented, etc. I don't understand what the tailgate skin has to do with relocating the tailgate handle?
April 23, 2004Thanks for clearing that up. I have no idea why I need it either. I'll give them a call to find out exactly why I need it before I buy it. It's an extra $90. Only 67-70 style Chevys require it.
May 4, 2004Yeah, that sounds like some BS. The skin is just going to smooth up the tailgate....Ok, from a minitrucker....On our lil trucks, when you relocate the handles, you need a filler piece to fill where the handle was. Maybe they are trying to sell you the skin that will cover the entire tailgate. A fullskin combo is to completely shave the tailgate and roll pan. So the whole rear is smooth and all one. But I'm not sure what's available for us older trucks...
