March 9, 2004Anyone know how I can take off some wheel locks without having the key? There's one on each wheel. I have to paint the drum brakes gloss black before the big show this Saturday. Right now they're an ugly rust color.

March 9, 2004It all depends on what style locks they are. Where is the key?
March 9, 2004I have no idea. I called the dealership to see if they had it but no luck. I might go to Discount Tire Co. to see if they can find a key that will work for me.
March 9, 2004Would be nice if you knew the brand & serial number.
March 9, 2004Nope. Don't know either. They should have a tool to take it off for me. I'll try and paint the drums when the truck is elevated on the jacks.
March 9, 2004I do. I've seen them doing it at a tire shop. Take one of the sockets with the 12points, I guess star pattern not the hex sockets. Make sure it's the size slightly bigger than the lock so it goes over the lock. Pound the socket onto the lock real good and use a impact wrench or ratchet to remove it. The impact works better. You'll have to get rid of the lock once it's off though.
August 1, 2006i also have locks on my truck is your truck key look like a 8 or similiar cause i got a spare key
August 13, 2012You can do it yourself. Get a socket that is bigger than the lock nut. Force it on with a hammer, and then turn. Your socket may/may not be ruined, but its cheaper than a shop. Most tire shops can do it. Or if you wanna save money, and some elbow grease, do the socket thing, but use an impact gun... Good luck! don`t get caught!
