September 16, 2004I have a 64 Chevy C-10 with a 3 on the tree.Mine goes into first ,second and third fine. Its reverse thats giving me problems. I can see the groove on the shift lever where its suppose to catch the peg for reverse. I can feel when it is not catching because it feels like somebody scratching a chalkboard when Im trying to get it in reverse. That peg is just not getting in the hole on the shift lever.Sometimes it gets into reverse and I will start to backup and it will jump out. Also when I think its in gear I let the clutch out, give it gas and It makes a weird raoaring, humming noise. I was wondering if I could take it off and weld the groove up? Would filling that groove up hold? Or could I just get a new one? About how much would one cost? What is the correct name for it?
Sorry for all the questions.
